GlyCardial Diagnostics has won the the EmprendedorXXI Award in the 'Health Tech' category, one of the six awards granted in its twelfth year to recognize those companies in Spain and Portugal with greatest growth potential in several sectors linked to the new innovation trends. The winners have been selected from 961 companies in Spain and Portugal. The biotechnology company, headquartered in the Barcelona Science Park, adds this award to the EmprendedorXXI Award in Catalonia, which it received on 9 May.
GlyCardial Diagnostics, created in 2017, is a spin-off of Institut de Recerca de l’Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau (IR-HSCSP) and the Superior Council of Scientific Investigations (CSIC), promoted by Judit Cubedo, a doctor in biology. The biotechnology company is developing an in vitro diagnostic device (IVD) for the early detection of cardiac ischaemia and prediciting progress in pattients after suffering an ischaemic event.
The six winners in this 2019 edition of the EmprendedorXXI Awards have received EUR 25,000 and specialized mentoring by heads of the CaixaBank business areas who support these awards in their respective categories. They will also be able to enjoy an international support programme in Silicon Valley, organized by Esade in collaboration with Singularity University, or an international business growth course, Ignite Fast Track, from the University of Cambridge (United Kingdom).
The award ceremony last Tuesday at Caixaforum Madrid as part of the ‘DayOne Innovation Summit’ Innovation, Technology and Entrepreneurship Day, a new programme created by CaixaBank DayOne, which brought together the main players of the entrepreneur, technology and investor ecosystem in several sessions throughout Spain. At the event, Juan Antonio Alcaraz, CEO of CaixaBank, highlighted the role of these awards: ‘The EmprendedorXXI Awards is our way of recognizing those entrepreneurs who help improve our business ecosystem. We want to reward relevant innovation initiatives, which help create wealth.’
The EmprendedorXXI Awards are promoted by CaixaBank, through DayOne, its specialized division for technology and innovation companies and their investors, and co-sponsored by the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism, through Enisa. At this year’s event, in which a total of 961 companies from Spain and Portugal participated, 19 territorial awards were given to the entrepreneurial projects with the greatest impact in their geographical area of origin: seventeen in Spain and two in Portugal, and, later on, at the domestic level, the companies were awarded with the greatest potential for growth in the following sectors: Agro Tech, Health Tech, Commerce Tech, Fin&Insur Tech, Tourism Tech and Impact Tech.
