Amgen Donates $1 Million and Establishes Tsunami Relief Program; Staff Donations, Company Contributions To Help South Asia Victims

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif., Jan 3, 2005 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Amgen Inc. (Nasdaq:AMGN) today announced that it has established a company-wide South Asia Tsunami Relief Program and provided an initial cash contribution of $1 million in support of humanitarian aid to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.

Amgen has also launched an internal Web site to facilitate individual staff donations. Amgen staff contributions for tsunami relief efforts will be matched dollar for dollar.

The immediate $1 million corporate donation to the Red Cross will be used for relief efforts including support for field hospitals and delivery of emergency relief supplies.

"Amgen´s corporate contributions and individual donations are expressions of our sincere sympathy for those directly affected by this tragedy," said Kevin Sharer, Amgen´s chairman and chief executive officer.

Amgen´s matching gift program for this effort will remain open for at least six months to assist in long-term recovery efforts.
