(November 15, 2005) - The Amgen Foundation today announced that it will provide $500,000 in cash donations to aid victims of the October 8 South Asia earthquake. The Foundation will donate $250,000 to Oxfam International to help provide appropriate winter shelter and clothing for earthquake survivors throughout Pakistan and India. The Foundation will also give $250,000 to Direct Relief International for medical equipment and supplies urgently needed in the impacted region. "Amgen extends its deepest sympathies to those impacted by the tragedy of the South Asia earthquakes," said Jean Lim, president of the Amgen Foundation. "With millions now homeless and winter approaching, the need for support is critical." In addition to the Oxfam and Direct Relief International support, the Foundation said it is using its Matching Gifts Program to match dollar-for-dollar the earthquake relief donations made by individual Amgen staff members. "The business community has given generously over the past year to support disaster victims worldwide," Lim said. "Once again significant assistance is required, and we encourage other companies to join us in supporting the relief effort to the fullest extent possible."
